Special Education Itinerant Teacher (SEIT) services are special education services authorized under New York State Education Law §4410 and recommended by the Committee on Preschool
Special Education (CPSE) for preschool students (ages 3–5) who have been determined eligible as a preschool student with a disability.
SEIT services are delivered in accordance with the child’s Individualized Education Program (IEP) and are funded through the New York State preschool special education system. Programming is conducted in the child’s natural learning environment, which may include: a preschool or childcare program; community-based early childhood settings or the child’s home (when recommended on the IEP.)
At Starting Point Services for Children, our New York State–certified special education teachers provide instruction that is directly aligned with your child’s IEP. We work closely with classroom teachers and related service providers to ensure consistency across settings. Our approach uses developmentally appropriate, evidence-informed strategies and structured supports—such as visual schedules, modeling, and positive reinforcement—to help children build skills step by step. We regularly monitor progress and adjust instruction as needed, with a strong focus on strengthening foundational skills, increasing independence, and helping children apply what they learn across environments.
SEIT services are provided pursuant to CPSE recommendation and parental consent. Families are considered essential members of the educational team and are informed of their procedural safeguards under state and federal law.
